The beginnings of the world’s leading manufacturer of piste vehicles were over half a century ago. To remain a technological pioneer over such a l ong period, you need not only to understand the industry but also to know where it is heading in the future.

With this claim of foresighted and responsible action, even at an early stage, PRINOTH backed the development of innovative and above all environmentally friendly technologies, which reduce the pollutants and emissions of the equipment to a minimum.

Here, one key factor for sustainability in piste preparation is the iCON alpine digital snow depth measurement from Leica Geosystems. With this, the piste vehicle operator knows the thickness of the snow cover under the vehicle or under the plate at all times – and in real time.

The operator can therefore handle the precious snow efficiently. With the SNOW HOW software package, preparation of the pistes can be undertaken even more efficiently and accurately. SNOW HOW, which comprises a fleet management and snow measuring system, allows faster and more sustainable working both on and off the piste.

The smart software detects existing snow reserves and thus allows optimal use of resources. This means better working not only on the ski slope but also on cross-country trails, in snow parks etc. So that the layer of snow on the piste can be recorded this accurately, the satellite-based system initially records the terrain in 3D.

This model provides the basis for the snow depth measurement, which is accurate to the centimetre. The hardware and software work together perfectly here to perform real-time calculation of the snow distribution. With the SNOW HOW software, the cockpit of the PRINOTH piste vehicles becomes a high-end command centre.

The first prototype of a piste vehicle was developed and successfully taken to series production by company founder and racing driver Ernst Prinoth in 1962. Ever since, the company has stood for innovative thinking and it has broken new ground time and again for over 50 years. At PRINOTH, operations have therefore expanded to several divisions and more than 600 employees worldwide.

In addition to the South Tyrolean head office in Sterzing and a used vehicle site with repair workshops and a spare parts depot in Telfs, PRINOTH also has a production site in Canada and in Germany respectively.
