Cablebús Line 3 in Mexico City is in operation.

With the inauguration of the ropeway project Cablebús Línea 3, Mexico City continues to lead the way in innovative urban mobility infrastructure. Once again DOPPELMAYR has been the city’s partner for building this modern gondola system.

In July 2021, Mexico City and the DOPPELMAYR Group celebrated the opening of Cablebús Línea 1. It was an important milestone in terms of sustainable urban mobility.

The capital city of Mexico consequently continued this path and proudly inaugurated the Cablebús Línea 3 on September 24, 2024 in attendance of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, President-elect and Mexico City’s former Mayor.

Sustainable benefits

This new public transport solution not only connects key areas of Mexico’s capital, but also promotes a sustainable and efficient transportation model that benefits residents and visitors alike.

Cablebús Línea 3 spans a total of 5.5 kilometers, linking the areas of Los Pinos and Vasco de Quiroga through six stations that traverse the iconic Chapultepec Forest.

With an initial capacity of 1,000 people per hour in each direction, the Cablebús Línea 3 is expected to transport approximately 12 million passengers annually, with the potential to expand and serve 36 million users in its final phase.

Tourism also benefits.

Besides its positive impact on public mobility, this new ropeway line will also benefit tourism.

With the Cablebús Línea 3, residents of the Santa Fe area will experience significantly reduced travel times, as well as improved connections to major public transportation systems such as the Tren Insurgente and the Constituyentes metro station.

In addition, the Cablebús Línea 3 will increase the area’s tourism and transportation potential and provide access to cultural and sports projects as part of the “Chapultepec Forest Project: Nature and Culture” under the direction of the Mexican government.

First-class ropeway technology

The detachable gondolas system was built by the world’s leading ropeway manufacturer, DOPPELMAYR, and is equipped with state-of-the-art D-Line technology, featuring 71 OMEGA V cabins, each with a capacity for 10 passengers.

With an operating speed of 6 meters per second, the total journey time is reduced from 40 to just 21 minutes. This mode of transport ensures a fast and comfortable travel experience, making the Cablebús Línea 3 an attractive and efficient alternative in the daily commute.

The launch of this ropeway system underscores the government’s and the DOPPELMAYR Group’s commitment to sustainable mobility.

“The Cablebús Línea 3 is not only a milestone in Mexico City’s transportation infrastructure, but also proof of how ropeways can transform the urban experience: It’s a modern, efficient, and environmentally friendly solution that brings tangible improvements to the quality of life for daily passengers,” said Konstantinos Panagiotou, Director of DOPPELMAYR Mexico.
