Becoming digitally sustainable – in urban areas
Researcher Christian Marheine from the University of St. Gallen is convinced that digitalization can be used as a lever for greater sustainability in municipal operations and transport operators. He proves this with facts, figures & examples.

The instruments for the recovery of urban cable cars
Urban cable cars are usually equipped with an integrated evacuation concept in which the cabins are brought into the station in the event of an emergency. However, operators should also rely on human recovery teams for safety. These require cable carriages to get from the supports to the cabins. The Swiss recovery specialist IMMOOS has recently expanded its product range for this purpose.
Transport Forum: sustainability and decarbonisation
This year, once again, Forum Verkehr: PSO & ÖPNV (the public service and local public transport forum) was held in Vienna. Here, representatives from the public and private transport sector meet and discuss the future of mobility. Every year, the focus is on different, current topics. In 2022, it was therefore all about fuel prices, future mobility and the path of decarbonisation.
A boost in the appeal of local public transport
The city of Bochum, a large city in the Ruhr metropolitan region, has a large shopping centre, the Ruhrpark, without good connections to the city centre. A group of voters wants to change this with an urban cable car.
A long planned project is now taking shape
Urban cable cars are becoming increasingly popular in Europe. Growing traffic problems and the demand for sustainable transport can even be heard in Prague, where a new cable car project is being developed.
