Emergency App for Titlis
When an alert is received, the piste rescue team is automatically sent information on the location of the casualty. Use the EchoSOS emergency app to alert the piste rescue team: this facility recently became available to skiers in the ski resort of Titlis. The destination has therefore also become part of a success story.
The Swiss emergency services have used the app extensively for the last two years and 850,000 downloads are a testament to its popularity. As soon as an app user enters the ski resort of Titlis, the SOS number for Titlis mountain railways automatically appears on the app home screen. Clicking on the number creates a telephone connection and transmits the location to the piste rescue service via GPS. This works even without an internet connection.
The piste rescue service receives a call, as normal, as well as the coordinates of the person who is calling. People who call the SOS number directly, without using the app, can also be located by means of SMS Locator. The piste rescue service can send a text message to the person who is calling and if the smartphone has an internet connection, the location of the recipient is then displayed in the emergency locator, which runs in a standard internet browser.
The emergency locator is used by many ambulance, fire service and police operation centres as well as various piste rescue services. In Engelberg, the EchoSOS app is also used by the Brunni railways piste rescue service.
