Megatrend Glamping
Glamping is last year’s mega-trend and the hype around “glamorous camping” is not slowing down this season! Quite the opposite.
In the meantime, even the domestic hotel industry has discovered glamping for itself. What used to be possible only on campsites and in glamping resorts is now part of the standard offer in many hotels.
More and more hoteliers are integrating glamping lounges, whether in the hotel garden as additional accommodation or in the pool area as a rest area.
Trend explained
The term glamping is derived from the words glamorous and camping and is not a new concept. However, glamping has become more and more of a mega-trend in recent years, especially in the USA.
In a world where the pressure and stress on people is constantly increasing, it is only natural that many long for time out and peace and quiet and want to recharge their batteries in nature.
Ordinary camping, however, is not for everyone, and only very few people want to do without the comfort of a hotel room.
With glamping, both components can be combined and it is precisely this mixture of nature and luxury that makes glamping so special.
Local hoteliers have also discovered this and are seizing the opportunity to use otherwise empty spaces in a sensible and sustainable way.

Glamping in the hotel
Glamping in a hotel may sound strange at first, but on closer inspection it makes perfect sense. Many hotels have a garden that is hardly used or not used at all.
To change this and expand room capacities, glamping lounges are increasingly being integrated into hotel gardens or by pools as oases of tranquillity. This has advantages for guests and operators alike:
“High-quality glamping lounges can be left standing all year round, as they are wind- and weatherproof, heated and can be parked wherever there is free space – including by the pool,” says Max Schade, Founder & CEO STROHBOID GmbH, a manufacturer of glamping lodges.
This makes glamping lounges extremely versatile and they can be used for much more than just sleeping arrangements. From private spa treatments, exclusive business lunches and private fine dining to cocktail lounges by the pool, all possibilities are open.
On top of that, guests don’t have to freeze or worry about bad weather, which means planned events or spa appointments don’t have to be cancelled even in snow, rain or storms.
Nevertheless, they can enjoy the closeness to nature and freedom they would not have in normal hotel rooms.
While initially it was mainly campsites and purpose-built glamping resorts that offered glamping, now it is mainly hoteliers and restaurateurs who are following suit and giving their holidaymakers a first-class experience in harmony with nature.
