Motorex launch of a new gear oil
The familiar ALPINE TOP PAO 220 gear oil is gaining a successor. Swiss lubricant manufacturer MOTOREX has revised the classic for piste vehicles and thus created the product ALPINE PRO 220.
“In the last two winter seasons, the lubricant has been tested intensively in various ski resorts. We have therefore been able to obtain plenty of information about wear, strain on the oil and service life. Selected customers, the technical customer service team and the development laboratory worked in close cooperation here,” Markus Damm, manager of Alpine Line product range age MOTOREX, reports.
“Because of the coronavirus pandemic, we had to cancel the first trial in spring 2020 and to restart it last winter. We were therefore immediately able to use the summer for improvements,” Damm says.
The oil was used specifically for piste vehicles in ski resorts in Austria and Switzerland, and regular samples were taken. These were then examined and optimised in the MOTOREX laboratory in Langenthal.

Reduced wear
The result is clear: outside the standard gear oils, ALPINE PRO 220 is fortified witha special combination of wear additives. “This new technology reduces the wearand thus guarantees a long service life,” Damm emphasises.
Additives are oil-soluble substances, which are mixed with the lubricants to achieve and optimise desired properties. Through chemical or physical effects, they have an impact on factors such as viscositytemperature behaviour, pour point, fluidity, oxidation stability, foaming and detergency.
Advantages
Even with a high level of strain, ALPINE PRO 220 guarantees outstanding protection from wear. Advantages of the gear oil include the extremely broad temperature range and the outstanding hydrolysis stability.
“The oil guarantees maximum protection for gear wheels, bearings and brake discs,” Damm says. Temperatures down to minus 50 degrees pose as little problem as a damp environment, such as from snow mist.
Applications
ALPINE PRO 220 has been developed specifically for use in final drives as well as distributor and winch gear for piste vehicles. “The lubricant meets the requirements in everyday practice, such as high pressures, a broad range of working temperatures, condensation and the brake discs that run in the oil,” Damm notes.
ALPINE PRO 220 therefore tackles a frequent problem: the final drives of snow groomers, which are subject to extreme strain. “We cannot simply lubricate at random here, otherwise the parking brake would no longer work on the steep terrain.
A special gear oil is therefore needed – and that is precisely what our new ALPINE PRO 220 does,” the product manager is confident.
Part of the Alpine range
With all its advantages, ALPINE PRO 220 fits perfectly in the ALPINE LINE product range from manufacturer MOTOREX. All the lubrication requirements of the Alpine infrastructure can be met thanks to the extremely broad ALPINE LINE product range.
All the products required for lubrication operation and maintenance are coordinated and available from one source. Not only does this have an impact on purchasing; it also makes the logistics considerably easier.
Competent support, advice and the analysis service are crucial. MOTOREX customers can also count on these with Alpine Pro 220.
