Transport hub with cable car
As the Luzerner Zeitung reports, something big is planned in Göschenen in the coming years: The expansion of the Göschenen railway station, a new cable car directly to the Gütsch and a new multi-storey car park in Göschenen. According to current estimates, the investments will amount to around 150 to 200 million Swiss francs.
The aim is to make the Andermatt holiday region more directly, comfortably and sustainably accessible in the future. To this end, the partners of the Destination Perspective Göschenen-Andermatt, as well as the Federal Offices of Transport (FOT) and Roads (FEDRO) want to develop the Göschenen railway station into an Alpine transport hub for trains, cable cars, buses and cars in the medium term.
Realisation from 2030
At their meeting, the partners decided to clarify the technical, scheduling and financial feasibility as well as the requirements under licensing law by the end of 2022 in order to then trigger the next steps.
The goal: In future, guests should be able to change trains in Göschenen easily, comfortably, safely and without barriers and travel on to the Andermatt holiday region.
A new cable car will transport travellers from Göschenen station to the Gütsch above Andermatt. This will enable day visitors in particular to travel directly to the holiday region without long waiting times.
The transport hub thus contributes to strengthening the public transport system and to the sustainable development of the existing leisure facilities and the Gotthard region.
