Bonn: important steps for the Venusberg
The Venusberg is a popular excursion mountain in Bonn. In addition, the UKB the University Hospital is located on the mountain. Students, employees, patients and visitors therefore commute en masse to the summit every day. However, this puts a strain on the only access road and parking spaces are also scarce. Due to these ever-increasing numbers, the city of Bonn was looking for a high-performance solution.
Given the conditions on site, the high-performance ropeway in particular proved its worth. However, such a project only makes sense if it is integrated into the existing public transport network.
The Federal City of Bonn will therefore, by resolution of the Council on December 9, include the planned ropeway in the still valid public transport requirement plan and the public transport infrastructure financing plan of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. This will make it possible to apply for subsidies for the project at a later date.
Citizens have their say
The planning steps for the Bonn ropeway are being refined more and more, but currently only the standardized evaluation has been carried out. The more in-depth planning will only take place in the next steps. This is because the citizens’ comments are also to be incorporated into the planned ropeway. Also during the further steps one would like to remain in constant exchange with the citizens.
What happens next
After the council decision, it is now necessary to wait for the regional council and the transport committee of the NRW state parliament to react with regard to the integration of the ropeway into the public transport requirement plan. Only when the cableway gets the green light here can the next planning steps be taken. After the review of the evaluations and the submission of the funding, construction could begin. If everything goes smoothly, the ropeway could go into operation in 2028 at the earliest.
