By gondola to the clinic: Göppingen examines cable car plans
The CDU fraction in the Göppingen municipal council has introduced an urban ropeway. The German transport club now wants to clarify in an information evening the questions to what extent such a project could make sense. A possible route could lead from the Göppingen train station to the clinic at the Eichert as the Südwest Presse reported.
Information evening shall reveal possibilities
Speakers will be Wolfram Auer from the Austrian ropeway specialist Doppelmayr and Eike-Christian Kersten, member of the VCD state board and the VCD district association in Heidenheim. Kersten reported on developments in the Heidenheim Schlossberg ropeway, which is currently being examined for its feasibility and various routes.
Due to some parallels, conclusions could also be drawn from the development in Heidenheim for a cableway project in Göppingen. Wolfram Auer, from Doppelmayr, evaluated concrete proposals for the ropeway in Göppingen at the information evening. The location in the Hohenstaufen town offers a connection as the crow flies, fully electric and autonomous operation would be possible, as would barrier-free gondola access.
Connection to public transport
The purpose of the cable car is to open up areas that are not sufficiently served, especially those of the right bank, which have been neglected for a long time, according to local authorities. The proposed budget is 53 to 73 million euros, depending on the route chosen.
The French cities of Brest and Toulouse already have cable cars as part of their public transport system, as does Grenoble in eastern France, while there are plans to install a cable car in the Paris suburbs.
