Record usage for London cable car
At almost 100 metres above the Thames, Emirates Air Line experienced its busiest day in over three years last week.
A total of 43,268 passengers travelled during the week – an increase of 170 per cent compared to the previous week. On the one hand, this increase can be explained by the start of the semester break. But the new online platform TikTok also made its contribution. Especially among young people, the attraction of the cable car increased significantly.
In the record week mentioned above, TikToks of the sunset on the cable car went viral. Videos tagged with the hashtag #emiratescablecars have amassed an incredible 5.3 million views so far. In total, there are 7.4 million views for videos related to the cross-river link. One TikTok video alone, which previews the ride, has now been viewed by 1.4 million people
Recurring phenomenon
Previous ridership figures also seem to correlate with TikTok numbers. In April, several TikToks of the cable car appeared with around one million views and within days of the videos being released, the cable car recorded its highest usage of the year so far.
