Cable car network for indore
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan presented his plan for the city at a meeting with the people responsible for public transport. It includes a reduction in vehicle numbers, which is why he is certain that an urban cable car is the right move for Indore. The cable car will help with getting a grip on the traffic chaos, Chouhan is sure, but his plans for the city go even further. “We will
make Indore the best developed city in the country. It will lead the way not only on cleanliness but also in the area of mobility. Few other cities will be able to keep up with Indore’s smooth traffic flow.” The path out of the congestion and towards being a leading light should be conquered within five years.
Thanks to the great support from the Minister, a cable car network all around the city is not being ruled out. According to estimates from Pradeep Kumar, Senior Officer at consulting company WABCOS, this would make it possible to transport of up to 12,000 people per hour. Furthermore, the public officials have been informed that the cable car project could be installed in four to five years.
Assurances have also been provided, that this project could pay for itself within the same period, if it is used effectively. A cable car requires a comparatively small budget and takes up less space than other transport systems with similar capacity. However, the introduction of the third transport dimension is not the only measure planned for Indore; the existing public transport network will also be expanded.
Furthermore, the development concept also includes better parking in the area of public transport, seven underpasses and the development of an 83-kilometre-long outer ring road, as well as additional road widening. tm
