Software – SMART MANAGEMENT OF URBAN ROPEWAYS
The Swiss company REMEC offers a complete package for this: With software, consulting and support, the Swiss experts help transport companies to manage their systems properly.
“Customer support is one of our most important trademarks!“ emphasises Johannes Stadler right from the start. The Managing Director of REMEC attaches great importance to the fact that customers are supported for as long as they use the products.
REMEC‘s work therefore only begins with the sale of the software. Its SAMBESI software covers the entire spectrum of urban ropeway maintenance: From task planning and internal communication to the legally compliant documentation of problems and solutions.
The risk management and contract management modules have also been added. This means that a cable car can not only be well maintained with SAMBESI, but also planned, administered and strategically managed. One software for (almost) everything, so to speak.
Independent & experienced
”REMEC is independent and covers the requirements of all cable car manufacturers with SAMBESI. Our software avoids a company-bound maze of digital solutions,“ says Stadler. The operators also benefit from adapting the programme to their needs.
Whether checklists, deadlines or technical specifications – SAMBESI is customised in detail to the respective installation and the content is checked by the cable car manufacturer.
The software runs on company tablets, is basically selfexpla natory, intuitive to use and replaces the otherwise thick maintenance books and mountains of paper for documenting maintenance and due diligence.
The SAMBESI software can be operated via tablets.
Comprehensive & proven in practice
“The advantage of 13 years of development is also reflected in the range of SAMBESI features. We are certainly ahead of our competitors in this respect”, Stadler is convinced. All tasks and their fulfilment are documented in the software.
This means that nothing is forgotten and internal communication works perfectly. Whether it‘s a shift change or sick leave – every machine operator knows what has already been completed, what still needs to be done and even which tasks could be brought forward, for example during the quiet night shift.
”The team can organise itself very flexibly and freely, which promotes team spirit and hard work,” says Stadler, speaking from experience. Additional information, such as an inspection appointment or an event that will generate a lot of passengers, is also shared.
Every problem and its solution is documented on the spot with photos and keywords using the tablet. This ensures that everyone has the same level of knowledge. The cable car manufacturer‘s exploded views are particularly helpful during maintenance.
The machine operator can stand right next to the component and display all technical documents, such as plans and guidelines, on the tablet. ”The TRUscan data, i.e. the fully automatic rope analysis from the manufacturer FATZER, are also automatically displayed in SAMBESI,” says Stadler (https://www.simagazin.com/en/si-urban-en/topics-urban/urban/das-smarte-seil-2/).
The software is also valuable for operations managers. They can use it to analyse problems, improve work processes and plan tasks. This allows them to carry out predictive maintenance. Last but not least, the knowledge is retained even when staff turnover occurs – the archive in the cloud does not forget.
The SAMBESI software is there where it is needed.
Managing risk & weigh up plans
The SAMBESI software also includes risk management. With the corresponding module, cable car operators can assess financial and technical risks and estimate feasibility as early as the planning phase. It is also possible to check the routing, for example with regard to moorland or neighbouring building rights.
“In principle, SAMBESI can record all conceivable countermeasures of all organisations in advance. Probabilities and consequences can then be assessed,“ summarises Stadler.
Managing contacts & duties
Contracts are particularly important in the urban market and should be well documented. That is why SAMBESI offers a structured filing system for all contracts.
This gives operators a standardised overview of all obligations – both financial and in the form of material and labour services. The software displays the contracts for each contractual partner, as well as the number and total cost of the obligations. Other rights and obligations can also be managed with SAMBESI.
The funicular railway Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois (CFL) is a committed REMEC customer.
Implemantation & consulting
The integration of the software into the operation is always carried out with strong support from REMEC.
The experienced ropeway experts not only tailor the software to the needs of the installations, but also provide on-site training – in close dialogue with the ropeway manufacturers, the control system suppliers and the operators. REMEC also supports the operators afterwards via remote maintenance.
“We can view the system at any time, switch on and give tips on maintenance,“says Stadler. Constant updates and the cloud installed in Switzerland ensure data protection and IT security.
So it‘s no wonder that not only numerous mountain railways rely on REMEC, but also urban cable cars: Examples include the funicular railways in Luxembourg, Hong Kong and Baden-Baden, the cable car in in Haifa, Israel, and six installations operated by Usha Brecco Ltd in India.
“SAMBESI is already represented in six languages and eleven countries. We look to the future with great confidence that we will soon gain a foothold in other countries,“ concludes Stadler.
