Paris: The longest urban cable car in France
The “Câble C1,“ spanning a distance of 4.5 kilometers, will traverse four municipalities situated within the Valde- Marne department. This innovative urban cable car project is poised to revolutionize transportation in the Île-de-France region and will have five stations.
As the first urban cable car in the Île-de-France region, it will connect the suburbs of Limeil-Brévannes, Valenton, Créteil, and Villeneuve- Saint-Georges, complementing the public transportation offering by extending Metro Line 8 into the neighborhoods and better connecting with the existing public transportation network, including regional trains and bus lines.
The view upwards
This is how the view upwards to the cabins will look like in 2025.
The cable car will start at the Créteil – Pointe du Lac Metro station, enabling commuters and passengers to seamlessly transfer between the Metro and the cable car, and vice versa.
The significant advantage is that the entire journey will take about 18 minutes without getting stuck in traffic during rush hour and without needing a schedule.
Covering an area with around 20,000 residents and approximately 6,000 jobs, it will alleviate critical traffic points in Paris. The project is commissioned by Île- de-France Mobilités.
Construction for the new cable car already began in the summer of 2023. The “Bois Matar“ station is currently being built in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges.
The necessary infrastructure for the cable car is funded by the Île-de-France region (49 percent), the Val-de-Marne department (30 percent), and the French state (21 percent). The project is budgeted at 132 million euros.

Comfortable and barrier-free
Uponcompletion, the105custom- designed 10-passenger cabins will transport 1,600 people per hour in each direction. During peak times, the cabins will operate every 30 seconds.
This significantly reduces the transfer time between different modes of transportation, as the cable car offers high transport availability.
The cabin design was developed in close collaboration between the Île-de-France Mobilités teams, future passengers, cabin manufacturer CWA Constructions SA/Corp., a part of the DOPPELMAYR Group (involved in the DOPPELMAYR France consortium).
In a public survey in spring 2022, the Île-de-France population voted on the exterior design of the cabins. The interior is designed to provide a comfortable travel experience for all passengers, including those with limited mobility, strollers, and bicycles.
Thisentailsmodularseatingconcepts, priority seating, handrails, as well as a safety concept with cameras and intercoms in the cabins. The stations also impress: their design harmoniously blends with the surroundings.

Intensive testing in early 2025
The prototype of the cabins, approved by all stakeholder groups, will enter serial production in early 2024. They will be manufactured by CWA Constructions.
Subsequently, they will be transported to the Temps Durables station workshop in Limeil-Brevannes and then put into test operation in the first half of 2025. The cable car is set to commence operations in the middle of the year.
