Transport Forum: sustainability and decarbonisation
The event opened with a piece on Austrian plans for expansion of the infrastructure to extend local public transport provision.
Herbert Kasser, General Secretary of the Austrian federal ministry of climate protection, explained which steps are still needed and which strategies are already being discussed and actively pursued for the successful mobility revolution.
In one of the subsequent presentations, strategies for achievement of the climate objectives were also discussed. Although transport is one of the main generators of CO2 pollution, experts regard it as the greatest opportunity to be able to make the necessary changes as quickly as possible, in order to achieve the targets.
Above all, the switch by the population from private transport to sustainable, climate-friendly local public transport is a core objective.
With great charm and wit, to the delight of all who were present, UniCredit Chief Economist Stefan Bruckbauer contributed daily updates on fuel and energy price developments during the time of crisis.
Attendees at the transport forum were then able to choose from one of three possible focuses, depending on their area of interest: local public transport, fleet management, or rail traffic.
Each of these topics covered the key issues of the sector and therefore offered valuable insights for the mobility experts present.
In the generous time allowed between presentations, attendees were able to talk among themselves or with the speakers about their personal experiences in the mobility sector and about the most effective future strategies.
