Urban cable car for Pattaya
Pattaya City Deputy Mayor Manot Nongyai recently met with Christ Cherdsuriy, Head of the Department of Public Works, to discuss a possible cable car project.
The firm Swiss Advice Company presented Pattaya with a cable car option, which involves Swiss technology from innovative cable car manufacturer BARTHOLET. The cable car could transport thousands of people per hour.
This would solve the traffic problems in Pattaya City. BARTHOLET is planning the design and implementation for the city.
Advantage: Low construction costs
The low construction costs are a major advantage for the city of Pattaya. Furthermore, implementation of the project would require less space than other conventional proposals, for example such as a tram.
The construction work could also be carried out at night, which would mean that its impact on the traffic could be minimised. For the city council, the investment would be rewarding, and the population would benefit from affordable fares.
The cable car would be able to transport up to ten people in each gondola and be designed to be barrier-free.
Three possible routes
There are three planned routes for the cable car in Pattaya. These run along Pattaya Beach Road, on Koh Larn and on Thappraya Hill.
The project launch is expected at the beginning of next year, when the official budget can be presented to Pattaya city council and the authorities responsible.
This is not the first time that the cable car system has been discussed, and it is now regarded as a cheaper and simpler alternative to the tram.
